SWH Team Colour Specialist Patrick Matthews is a winner-winner-chicken-dinner! We love his beautiful balayage and technical, creative colours in-salon. And he’s taking the hair industry by storm too. His awards for styling and colour, including afro work, are mounting up and so are the invites to perform on a bigger stage.
Patrick held one of the prime 2-hr sessions on-stage at ColourWorld UK on Sunday and in true fashion, he wowed the audience with an interactive colour demo that took it’s inspiration from street-style and laidback cool. It is a pared down, wearable version of the high-impact pixelated, tartan and striped hair colour we’ve seen on catwalks and celebrity pages.
To achieve the graphic look, he blow-dried the hair to produce an immaculately smooth base and then used a freehand technique to paint square panels of pre-lightener onto the hair with careful placement. Once processed and rinsed, he then added the colour detail using L’Oreal’s new Colorful Hair range; semi-permanent colours that add instant fun and impact to your summer styling. The colours last up to 12 weeks and leave no stain on the hair once fully-washed out. Patrick painted bespoke mixes of the hair colour onto the panels to create a unique blend of metallic, pastel and acid tones. Once processed, the hair was rinsed and blow-dried for a sleek finish. The final bespoke touch was to use a crimping technique on some of the panels to create a 3-D effect and enhance the graphic elements to the look.
Not surprisingly, the crowds gathered around his chair throughout the demo and went viral on social media with those following the industry event. He was back in-salon on Tuesday being filmed by ColorSoft online for another creative colour transformation, this time on a bob.
