5 Things to Do in Brilliant Brighton This Christmas and New Year

We’ve put together our pick of the top 5 things to do to celebrate in Brighton style…

Skate at the Royal Pavilion Ice Rink

Take to the ice with the majestic Royal Pavilion as your backdrop! A feel good festive activity perfect for the whole family to enjoy, the pretty ice rink is lit with twinkly lights adding a magical Christmas feel to proceedings. Enjoy festive fare in the restaurant or head nearby to one of the North Laine’s many pubs or cafes for a hot chocolate or a warming tipple or two.  The Royal Pavilion ice rink is open until 19th January 2020.

Shop the sales

There’s nothing quite like getting a bargain is there? In Brighton we’re lucky to have such a variety of shops – from quirky independents in The Lanes and North Laine to big name High Street favourites in East Street, Western Road and North Street, with most having sales after Christmas. Some stores have already started their Christmas sales so treat yourself as you finish your present buying. ‘Tis the season after all!

Take part in Burning The Clocks

A unique Brighton community event, Burning the Clocks (organised by Same Sky) brings a magical, musical light procession to the city streets to mark the winter solstice (shortest day). This year, it takes place on Saturday 21st December from 6:30pm. It starts in New Road and passes through North Street, Ship Street and East Street, before heading down onto the seafront for a spectacular bonfire and fireworks. Arrive early for an early supper and spot of Christmas shopping or grab a hot drink to sup as you marvel at the parade.

Snap your favourite Christmas lights

With a twinkling canopy of lights in The Lanes, mod themed lights in North Laine and fun and festive lit up words in North Street and Western Road, Brighton’s Christmas lights are certainly sparkling up the city centre! Made possible by 517 Brilliant Brighton businesses (who collectively contribute to pay for the lights each year), the Christmas lights are hung up in pride of place for residents and festive visitors to enjoy. Don’t forget to take photos of your favourites and share them with us on Twitter, Facebook or Instagram – be quick though, they’ll be coming down in early January!

Start 2020 on a high

Start 2020 on a high by seeing in the New Year in the British Airways i360 pod, 450ft above Brighton. Enjoy a glamorous evening of dinner and dancing, with a five-course meal, wine and entertainment.

Missed out on a ticket? Why not head to one of Preston Street’s bars and restaurants and feast your way into the New Year – before heading down to the beach to watch the midnight fireworks?
