We all know plastic waste, especially single-use plastics, is a pressing issue for our environment and big brands aren’t always the fastest to keep pace. So Brighton indie-salon, Simon Webster Hair, have launched their own initiative – to offer refills on shampoo and conditioners to their clients.
The family-run Gardner Street salon has won awards for their progressive approach to business (inc genderfree styling, democratic staffing and client-centred approach) and with SWH Refills they’re hoping to make a positive impact on the waste produced by the hairdressing industry and encourage suppliers to transition to 100% refillable products.
“It’s not going to change the world”, said owner Sophie Webster, “But if we can all assess where we can help and do our bit, then it’s a start. And if we can offer a new service that encourages suppliers to think about their own behaviour, then that’s a good start. For our clients, it means we can reduce the cost of the product because they’re not paying for plastic bottles every time they buy. ”
The refills initiative is simple: buy your original bottle from SWH Team, enjoy it at home and then when you’ve used it up, return your empties to the salon for a discounted refill.
