Wahaca’s Brighton Beach Tacover

This summer, Mexican restaurant Wahaca is raising funds to help clean up Brighton beach and reduce plastic pollution. Money raised throughout the month at the restaurant will be donated to three local eco-awareness initiatives – Brighton Dolphin Project, Plastic Free Brighton and Plastic Free Pledge – to fund their valuable work. Wahaca also invites everyone to join them at a big beach clean on Sunday 21st July.

Wahaca’s Brighton Beach Tacover kicks off on Friday 28th June with the Wahaca Taco Van giving away free tacos from 12-3pm from its pitch outside the North Street restaurant – if you like the food, show the love with a £1 donation to the beach-clean campaign.

Customers can get involved by buying one of Wahaca’s Grilled Mackerel Tacos, a Brighton-only special available from 28th June-31st July. For each of these tacos sold, Wahaca will put £1 towards the beach-clean fund.

Families can get involved too! Wahaca is running a Kids Eat (Almost!) Free campaign throughout the month – all they ask for is a £1 donation per child, eating with a paying adult

Everyone is welcome to sign up to the Wahaca Beach Clean on Sunday 21st July – a great event for friends and family alike. They’ll be working with local artist and marine plastics expert Claire Potter to bring the campaign to life in the restaurant too, who will create a bespoke piece developed from plastic collected during the beach clean.

Thomasina Miers, Wahaca co-founder and chef, said: “’I’m really excited that our Wahaca Brighton team is running a campaign to raise funds for a big beach clean and we’re hoping as many people as possible can get involved – just by eating tacos!”

“Sustainability has always been integral to what we do at Wahaca from recycling all our food waste, becoming the UK’s first Carbon Neutral restaurant group back in 2016 or by working with local charities, suppliers and artists. It has been fantastic bringing that to life in our Brighton restaurant, a city I have come to know so well through my siblings who live down here. It’s great to be able to give back in such a fun way.”

Wahaca’s Brighton Beach Tacover begins 28th June and runs until 31st July. For more information and to sign up to the beach clean on Sunday 21st July, please visit www.wahaca.co.uk/brighton or find the event on Facebook at www.facebook.com/wahacabrighton/.
