Whirligig’s owner Peter Allinson is to appear on Kirstie’s Handmade Christmas!
Tune in to Channel 4 on Tuesday 11th December at 5pm
Peter Allinson, founder of Whirligig Toys on Gardner Street, was thrilled to have been asked to bring his toy-spotting talents and business experience to the home of Kirstie Allsopp for an episode of her TV series, ‘Kirstie’s Handmade Christmas.’
Peter flew to a private address in Devon to record his part in the show, where he was asked to judge the results of the toy-making episode of the series. “It was lovely to meet Kirstie and participate in the making of a popular TV show,” says Peter. “As a fellow crafter it was also nice to help Kirstie out whilst putting one of my hobbies to good use.”
The episode, which airs at 5 pm, Tuesday 11th December on Channel 4, was recorded back in October. “When I arrived, the house was full to the brim with Christmas decorations. But at Whirligig we’re used to Christmas starting early as we’ve been well prepared for what is now our busiest time of the year.”
This TV appearance is the icing on the cake for a fantastic year for the much-loved Brighton toy shop (which started in Brighton in 2012, and specialises in ‘things to make and do’), as they have just been awarded with the Let Toys Be Toys Toymark 2018, challenging gender stereotypes in childhood – making it the first multi-recipient winner. Last month they were also commended as one of the top 25 UK businesses at the Indie Retail Best Small Shops Award 2018.
See Peter help Kirstie choose from the best handmade toys, created by crafters, on Channel 4 on Tuesday (11th December) at 5pm or visit him and the team in-store at 9 Gardner Street.
